UNC #1 seed overall
It is not all that common for the Preseason AP #1 team to end the season in the same spot. But our Tar Heels did this year! As a Carolina fan, you couldn't ask for any better situation. We are playing some of our best defense of the year and our offense seems to click when it needs to. As long as we can bring our intensity, we should do well.

Is there any question the EAST region is the toughest in the whole bracket? Tenn, Indiana, Wash St, Louisville, Butler, and Notre Dame all in the same region. Sheesh. Much like the ACC Tournament, if UNC goes to the final foul, we will have earned it!
Comments:
Agreed.

The Tar Heels are the best #1 seed by rank therefore they should be playing the worst #2 assuming both go to the final game in that bracket. I have a hard time believing Tenn is the 8th best team in the Nation. I think many would say they deserve a #1 spot so UNC really got screwed on the bracket assignments.

Ty's just one ankle role from killing their chance to go all the way so all the tough early games may really hurt them.

Re: Commenter Brantley’s statements:

(1) “The Tar Heels are the best #1 seed … they should be playing the worst #2 …” (2) “I have a hard time believing Tenn is the 8th best team in the Nation. … they deserve a #1 spot”

The other NCAA schools likely do not agree with (1) above (see additional responses below.)

TN is better than the 8th team in the Nation. Their 2007-08 basketball record is significantly more impressive than UNC’s and they deserved the #1 spot in the Eastern Regionals!

For comparison:

UNC lost two regular season conference games AT HOME by a combined 13 points (Duke; MD); TN lost two regular season conference games ON THE ROAD by a combined total of 9 points (Vanderbilt, KY)!

Four ACC teams made it to the Big Dance; six SEC teams made it to the Big Dance! TN beat more quality teams!

UNC has played and beaten four non-conference NCAA teams that are seeded 8 (BYU), 9 (Kent St.), 10 (Davidson) and 11 (KY) respectively; TN has played seven non-conference NCAA teams that are seeded 1 (Memphis), 2 (Texas), 3 (Xavier), 7 (Gonzaga), 7 (W. VA), 12 (Temple), and 12 (W. KY). TN beat all of them except Texas.

UNC has played three ACC NCAA tournament teams and lost to an ACC team that isn’t going to the Big Dance; TN played five SEC NCAA tournament teams and the three they split the season with (one in the SEC Tournament by 1 point) are all going to the Big Dance along with two other SEC teams.

(3) “UNC really got screwed on the bracket assignments.”

This statement is the proverbial “looking a gift horse in the mouth!” UNC is the only #1 seed that will potentially play all of its regional games in its home state and the first two rounds within a 30 minute drive from its campus! That amounts to home court advantage not afforded to any other NCAA team. How many UNC Super-delegates were on the NCAA selection committee? Give me a break!

and (4) “Ty's just one ankle role from killing their chance to go all the way so all the tough early games may really hurt them.”

Any NCAA team may really be hurt by one ankle role to a key player – injuries are not a UNC exclusive, Roy just whines about them more than others; he did the same at Kansas. Gotta go – have to help Psycho find a contact lens. HA!

Ol’Roy might enjoy the Kansas vs Duke or UCLA or Memphis game in San Antonio if he decides to skip a tee time.

haha must be a dook fan^

No, that sounds like a Tennessee fan. I wish UNC and Tenn would face off in the Elite 8. I really hate that unctuous, oily used-car salesman they have for a coach.

Def a dook fan considering they have dook in the final four and not tennessee
